Law no. 94/09 was published in the ordinary supplement of the Italian Official Gazette no. 170 of 24 July 2009. In addition to introducing laws related to public security and order, the law also modified some provisions on immigration contained in Legislative Decree no. 286/98 and the related implementation regulation. In particular, a simplified procedure has been introduced for hiring qualified non-EU workers such as managers, highly specialised personnel, university professors, researchers and those who have been temporarily admitted to fulfil specific functions and duties for a certain amount of time; among other things the need for requesting a prior “nulla osta” (approval) has been eliminated for these categories.
